Over the weekend, Billboard revealed that Travis Scott‘s ASTROWORLD was the number one album in the country, and embattled musician Tekashi 6ix9ine‘s debut studio-album DUMMY BOY debuted at number two. However, according to an e-mail sent by a representative at Nielsen, there’s a possibility that Tekashi‘s LP is the true number one.
According to Hits Daily Double, Drew Bennett at Nielsen reported via e-mail that there was a discrepancy in the initial reporting of Scott’s number one album.
“We’ve since then reprocessed the jobs necessary and re-finalized the charts,” Bennett wrote. “As a result, 6ix9ine’s ‘Dummy Boy’ will be moving to #1… Our team is working quickly to identify the root cause of this discrepancy to ensure that we get it right the first time.”
Per the initial Billboard report on the projects’ numbers and chart placements, ASTROWORLD earned 71,000 equivalent album units, 31,000 of those units being pure album sales. The 13-track DUMMY BOY, which features acts like Kanye West and Nicki Minaj, was reported to have sold 66,000 equivalent units, with 10,000 in pure album sales.
Tekashi was recently arrested on multiple charges, including racketeering, weaponry and conspiracy murder, which carries the possibility of life behind bars. Last week (Nov. 26), he pleaded not guilty to the charges. His trial is reportedly set for Sept. 2019.
