Tommy Hilfiger and Superplastic Celebrate Hip-Hop Milestone

Tommy Hilfiger is celebrating 50 years of hip-hop in animated style.

On Friday, the PVH-owned brand unveiled its limited-edition capsule collection with Superplastic Studios, the social-media-driven animated character universe, and its animated hip-hop duo, Ghost Kidz.

The three-piece collection focuses on reworked ’90s-style tees. Each top features the iconic Tommy flag and the Ghost Kidz emblem. The shirts are made with 50 percent organic cotton and 50 percent conventional cotton.

In support of the collection and hip-hop’s milestone, Ghost Kidz rappers Lil’ ILL and Filth-E released their latest single and music video, “Big Bag,” featuring rap artist Armani Caesar of Griselda Records. In the video, Ghost Kidz is seen wearing pieces from the new collection.

“Everyone knows that music has always been central to Tommy and the Tommy Jeans brand,” said Ioana Banu, Superplastic’s chief development officer. “In the early ’90s, Grand Puba, Aaliyah, Destiny’s Child, Snoop Dogg and so many notables were not only wearing the clothes, but often dropping the Hilfiger name in hit tracks. Being included in their celebration of 50 years of hip-hop is an honor, especially because we’re breaking barriers once again by incorporating our animated characters, Ghost Kidz, into the campaign.”

This isn’t the first collaboration between Tommy Hilfiger and Superplastic. Last year during New York Fashion Week, Tommy Hilfiger produced a virtual fashion show live-streamed to the global Roblox community which starred Superplastic’s animated celebrities Janky, Guggimon and Dayzee. During the event, the celebrities walked the runway in the Tommy Play experience wearing Tommy x Richard Quinn’s gender-inclusive capsule collection.

“I think we all knew we were on to something special [after the first collaboration] and the synergy would continue through more projects together,” said Banu. “When Tommy reached out and asked for our newest characters, Ghost Kidz, to join their global campaign celebrating 50 years of hip-hop, it was an instant ‘HELL YEAH’.”

The Tommy Hilfiger x Ghost Kidz collection retails for $59.50-$119.00. It’s available now at the Superplastic store in New York City and on its website.
