Highsnobiety Debuts Elevated Basics Collection

Men’s fashion is going back to basics, and streetwear purveyor Highsnobiety is joining the charge.

The publication-turned-lifestyle brand debuted Highsnobiety Staples Tuesday, a new line of elevated men’s basics that taps into the newfound demand for high-quality comfort pieces. Described by Highsnobiety as the “everlasting wardrobe staples that you’ve been waiting for,” the collection features no loud prints or graphics. Rather, the focus is on high-quality materials and simplicity.

The 27-piece collection features T-shirts, hoodies, sweatshirts, socks, beanies and caps with minimal branding. Garments and accessories are available in white, black, eggshell, burgundy, navy, gray and green, and retail from $12 for socks to $89 for hoodies.

“2020 has challenged the world to rethink its approach—in society, in life and in fashion,” the brand stated. “Our design is reflective of this challenge, a focus on what is most essential.”

The collection echoes a recent report by retail data analytics company Edited that shined a spotlight on the resurgence of men’s basics like shorts, hoodies and T-shirts, especially those in solid and neutral colorways. Retailers, Edited noted, are responding by bulking up their neutral comfort stories. T-shirts remain the top-stocked category, followed by shorts and hoodies.

Tracksuits, buoyed by the revival of ’90s streetwear made famous by Michael Jordan, are also seeing a “heavy increase” in year-over-year arrivals.

Also following this trend is Gap, which famously teamed with Kanye West’s Yeezy label to deliver a co-branded line of apparel and accessories to the market in 2021. The collaboration, due to hit stores in 2021, will focus on modern, elevated basics for men, women and kids at accessible price points.
