Kenzo Taps “Queen of Denim” Britney Spears for a Special Collection

Kenzo’s muse for spring? Pop star Britney Spears and her panache for double denim.

The French luxury brand tapped Spears for its Memento Collection N°2, an upbeat line and campaign that pays homage to its 1986 collection, the year Kenzo introduced Kenzo Jeans. The brand said the line was inspired by icons like its signature tiger and Great Wave of Kanagawa motifs, as well as inspiration from Spears herself.

In a statement, Kenzo describes Spears as an icon and “the quintessential queen of denim”—a nod to the infamous denim gown she wore to the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards with a denim-clad Justin Timberlake, her boyfriend at the time.

Spears dons a denim bikini and thigh-high denim boots in the campaign. The shoot was photographed by Peter Lindbergh in Los Angeles in a style reminiscent of the fun and energized supermodel shoots from ’80s Vogue covers.

Highlights for the women’s collection include a $395 midi denim wrap skirt with the brand’s Kanagawa Wave print, a $540 denim kimono dress, a $680 cropped jean jacket with a contrasting red pocket and a $955 denim trench coat. Men’s items span denim Bermuda shorts and T-shirts, to high waisted wide leg jeans and turn-up jeans.

Kenzo’s quirk comes through in items like oversized denim shirts and kimono jackets, a denim brassiere, a reversible denim floppy hat and branded bum bags.

The Memento Collection N°2 will be available on kenzo.com, Kenzo boutiques and participating Kenzo partners from March 21.
