Since her 1999 debut, Britney Spears has made plenty of history at the MTV Video Music Awards. This year, she will be returning to the VMA stage for the first time in a decade.

Spears is set to perform “Make Me,” the lead single from her ninth studio album, “Glory,” with featured rapper G-Eazy. Spears and MTV have been promoting the moment with a minute-long video clip featuring iconic visuals from Spears’ VMA past.

Before she takes the stage on Sunday night, Footwear News takes a look back at her most memorable red-carpet moments.

Spears sparkled on the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards red carpet. She paired Rene Caovilla sandals with a gold and silver mesh bodycon dress. Last year, Spears was on hand to present the first award of the night, for Best Male Video.

In 2011, Spears took home the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award. Lady Gaga was there (dressed as her male alter ego, Jo Calderone) to present the honor. She said, “Britney taught me how to be fearless; she taught us all how to be fearless. She’s a pop music legend, and the industry wouldn’t be the same without her.” Spears also won the award for Best Pop Video for “Till the World Ends.”

After 16 nominations, Spears won her first VMA in 2008. She nabbed the honors for Best Female Video, Best Pop Video and Video of the Year for “Piece of Me.” Spears was all smiles backstage, wearing a one-shoulder Atelier Versace dress and matching sandals.

The kiss heard/seen ’round the world happened in 2003, when Madonna and Spears smooched onstage and stunned MTV’s 10.7 million viewers in the process. Spears, Madonna and Christina Aguilera hit the stage to perform a medley of Madonna’s “Like a Virgin” and “Hollywood.” Spears was dressed as a “bride,” wearing white from head to toe, while Madonna portrayed a groom.

Spears hit the carpet in 2002 wearing a dominatrix-like ensemble. The leather getup was paired with legwrap heels. During the show, she referred to Michael Jackson as the “artist of the millennium.” Jackson misunderstood the introduction, thinking he was receiving the Artist of the Millennium Award. In reality, MTV was throwing him a celebration as the event fell on his birthday.

In 2001, Spears left little to the imagination by wearing a lace minidress. Later in the evening, she hit the stage to perform “I’m a Slave 4 U.” It’s gone down as one of the most memorable VMA moments: Spears dancing to her hit with a live albino Burmese python on her shoulders.
