For resort ’17, London’s Rupert Sanderson‘s shape shifted.
The designer, who is best known for his way with pumps (a favorite of Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge), showed a new, more squared-0ff toe shape for the season. The chiseled style had a tri-tone swirl motif, which was mirrored on the inner side of gilded block heels. The overall effect has a surrealist spin. It was also offered in a Ripple sandal version.
Elsewhere, the Rethel slingback, a draped suede style with petit tasseling, highlighted Sanderson’s knack for foot flattery. Ditto the Nettle cage bootie in ’70s-style purple and green molten metallics. But well-measured whimsy also prevailed, with the otherwise classic Neville menswear flats sprouting cotton candy chiffon from the tongue.
To give the collection further pop, there was also a series of Pathan and Kanshar block-heel cork platforms, which were cleverly juxtaposed with jazzy uppers — think dotty jacquards, pretty pastel suedes and even an embroidered sari silk.
