Nicholas Kirkwood has been on a whirlwind tour to toast his 10 years in business.
The designer launched a limited-edition line of playful styles and was on hand at Bergdorf Goodman Thursday with the looks on display.
But he wasn’t in New York City for long before heading off to his next destination. “A few hours,” he said. “I’m off this evening.”
Prior to NYC, Kirkwood was in Asia, including a stop in Singapore for On Pedder. “We just did Hong Kong, Singapore and Jakarta. It was a lot — I did a talk in each of the cities and went to one of the design schools over there,” he said. “I’m heading back to Shanghai to do it again in two weeks.”
Kirkwood recalled a memorable consumer story from a Jakarta event: “We had one lady buy six pairs,” he said. “I was trying to get her to buy 10.”
When asked about taking time off for the holidays, Kirkwood joked, “No, no time off. Time off is for the wicked.”
For fun, FN asked our signature question: If you could be a shoe, what shoe would you be?
“Something that is really impractical, always out late at night. It gets quite worn in, loves a cab home. Sometimes gets lost,” he said.
